A jaded reference to life as a JW, perhaps?

That right there deserves a standing ovation. Awesome, man! That's GREAT. Your name (FadingAway) really applies!

WTWizard said: Exercise: Riding my bicycle to and from work (beats paying for gas).
For those that work too far away from home to bike, I heard a great suggestion... drive 3/4 of way to work, park the car in a public lot and ride in the rest of the way (helps if there are showers at work or a nearby gym you can change at). You can increase the biking distance/reduce the driving distance as you lose weight and build stamina. You'll still get the benefit of biking for exercise, as well as using less fuel.
For me, I've been walking 1 hour each night... I figure it's just over 3 miles, will have to put the pedometer on and see what it comes up with. Aggravating part is no significant loss in weight yet, after two weeks. Of course, muscle weighs more than fat, so...

I enjoyed reading Warren's accounts. I have a question about this statement:
I had quite a bit of liberty of movement through the factory as an electrician, and I was becoming better known with all the supervisors and was able to go just about anywhere without question.
Does Bethel restrict where Bethelites are allowed to go?? I imagine that there are restricted areas, like where the GB are, but in general are their "guards" that question Bethelites that wander into areas to which they are not assigned??

If I can get my hands on a copy of the Youth book, I'll scan it, searchable PDF. I have the latest version of Adobe and a scanner. If my wife and kids attend the weekend of June 20th, I'll have a copy then and will scan it if it's not already been done.
i'm sending a package to my parents and am including a letter.

this is a list of what is contained in this box:.
Great letter... but what's the story behind the "1 pair of shoes"? Maybe I missed it....
this magazine was disturbing to me at the time, but i lost track of it and only recently found it .
this is exactly as it was printed, no photo shop, i am not that clever.. it is credited to a newsagency, jan banning , panos pictures - so i do believe that she was a real child prostitute .
there is something that gets to me even now about this picture.

Not sure who picks the stories, but we know from the video they produced that the Governing Body looks at a selection of proposed covers for the issue and personally selects / approves the cover choice. So something about that picture of the young girl forced into prostitution tickled the right triggers for them to pick it. Revolting... Faithful. Discreet. Bah!!
so we had our book study last night.
we are nearing the end of the insane revelation book.
you know, the one that the watchtower says is 100% symbolic except for that bit about the 144,000 chosen ones?
Someone commented and made the worst analogy I have ever heard in favor of pre-teen or early-teen baptism. She says that she heard a circuit overseer say that if they are old enough to choose what TV shows they watch, what kinds of clothes they wear, what kind of video games they want to play, then they are old enough to choose which god they are going to serve.
What the hell? Choosing which god to worship and agreeing to sign your life away forever to a human organization are two completely different things. How can you compare making a choice between Pokemon and Sonic the Hedgehog to dedicating your life to a religious group?
What is wrong with these people?
You're right, it's disgusting. My folks used to remind me how the birds were going to eat my eyes (read me some scripture in Proverbs).
How hard was it not to raise your hand and make a comment to that effect?? God, I'd love to see somebody have the guts to do that at one of their meetings... at the bookstudy, awesome; at the WT study... priceless.
I just saw this thread, thanks to someone else for pointing it out to me.
You're not going to BELIEVE the odds of this, but this incident happened at the VERY AIRPORT I FLY OUT OF! No, it didn't involve me or anybody I know.
Here's some more detailed pictures than you'll get on the news:
